4.2 Stop Motion Animation

Stop Motion Animation

Like I mentioned before in my previous post, Stop Motion is a form of animation in which you get a physical figure and take pictures of it, moving it little by each photo, combining the photos together, making it seem like the character is moving on its own. This takes a majority of time to produce this kind of film.

To make a Stop Motion Film, you would need a list of supplys to make sure your doing it right.

Some of the needed products you would need are...

- A Digital Camera

- The Subject (An Object like a toy, a car, or a stick figure or even clay)

- Good Lighting (Be able to capture the moment)

- A Storyboard (Have an idea for what your going to capture)

- An Editing Software which Allows you to Put All the Photos in a Moving Motion

The First thing you would do to make a Stop Motion Animation is to make a storyboard. This helps you prepare for what you want to capture and lets you know exactly what you need. Than you would go through the process of actually making it. Taking the photos and once your done, you would need to upload them to your computer. or your software. The last thing you would want to do is to combine it all together, organize it, and stack it all together and there, you have the finishing product.

If you have ever made a Stop Motion Film, you would know that even with just making a 3 minute animation, it would take time and effort. Just imagine all the other Stop Motion films that take around an hour or so.

Some of the most known examples are Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, and much more.

My Experience -

I only made one Stop Motion with my group partners for an assignment. It took around 2 weeks and we had to produce sound and make the photos ourselves. It took a pretty long time so now it's hard to imagine people to just do that for films that are around an hour or so.

I hope you learned a little about Stop Motion Animation. Stay updated for more posts.
