Media Arts is art expressed through technology such as digital art and photography, but another section called New Media Arts is the ways of arts through technology which was only developed recently. In this blog, we will explain and discuss the forms of New Media that people use today.

The Internet

We each use the internet in our daily lives but how do we explain what it is in simple terms. It the source which connects us to the rest of the world. The Internet is one important element which makes up the current modern world. With it, we use it educationally, researching for our work and learning more, basically about anything. With the internet, we connect others by sending messages with a connection, emails, blogs, and more that we can make it either private or share it with the world. We go through these types of messages through the internet and learn faster with just a click. With the internet, you get a lot of information on a lot of various topics which the internet probably has knowldge of and we can explore the world just within our fingertips, without needing to get up. It's the connection with the rest of the world. 

Social Networking

We know that we can connect to other people anywhere that has a device using the internet but specifically on what? The software, website, application, app, is specifcally calling Social Networking. Social Networking or Social Media is the application or platform that connects us with other users and people around the world. There are many platforms that exist in this Networking chain but I'll only dicuss some of the most popular and used ones in our world.

- Facebook

One of the biggest platform, titled Number #1 used social media platform with 2.74 billion users and a stock price of $202.08. Started in February 2004 and from it's launch, it already gained it's popularity and as the most famous platform at the time. Facebook is a platform where people make posts and share information with other people, to be interactive with others, where people share information about themselves and interact with others online. 

- Youtube

Coming in second with most users, with 2.29 billion years. This platform was a lot different than other social platforms. Instead of making posts, you make a video and share it with the world. The video can be anything, an informational video, a vlog, skits, for comedical purposes, a music video, challenging videos, an inspirational video, whatever you choose to share with the world. It has been running up since December 15, 2005 attracting 30,000 more users a day. It recently had one update, 

Youtube Shorts, in which you would be able to send short Youtube videos instead of making and going through the process of uploading videos normally.

- Whatsapp

This platform is specifcially for people to sending messages to people they know, a mobile application. This app is usually for people with a phone number to be able to contact others. You get new contacts but adding them, can be able to text and call them and set up profile pictures for them. This started up from January 2009 and currently has around 2 billion users, being known as reliable messaging app.

- Instagram

Instagram is one of the most popular and recalled social media platform. It's the first platform to pop up in your head if you were to recall social media networks. Instagram is the platform where you can post pictures or short videos taken or fimed on phones. You can friend people and get to know them by commenting on their posts or following them to see what they do regularly. Instagram laucnhed in October 2010 and currently has arounde 1.4 billion users on the platforms. It is currently known for posts sent by millions of people around the world to send their stunning pictures.

We only went over a few of some well - known social media platforms but there are lots more such as tiktok, twitter, pinterest, and lots more. 

My Experience - 

The internet is a need for me, as it provides me with information and even entertainment. To be honest, I had barely been on social media platforms but the ones I'm usually on are Pinterest and Youtube. All these Social Networking is a big deal for me, especially during the pandemic.
